Meet Medical Assistant Susan Lake

Susan Lake is one of the newest team members at Southeastern Fertility.

As a registered medical assistant, she helps serve both our general clinic and National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) families. In fact, many of you have probably already met her!

The video below, first posted as part of our popular “Facebook Friday” series, is your chance to get to know her a little better.

Failure: A Valuable Teacher

When it comes to IVF, failure isn’t necessarily final. Something valuable can always be learned.

When IVF is unsuccessful, the failure will generally come down to one of three factors: the transfer itself, the lining of the uterus, or the embryo(s).

Reviewing the attempt with your physician is a valuable experience because it gives you and the doctor the chance to explore important questions related to those factors.

Some of those questions could include:

Were there difficulties accompanying the transfer?

Was there inflammation in the lining?

How did the body respond to medication or stimulation?

Unpacking the answers to these and other questions can go a long way toward impacting how (and whether) you move forward with more treatment in the future. The lessons learned can give you real hope.

Southeastern Fertility Co-Director Dr. John Gordon and IVF Coordinator Lynda McCollum have more in this video, originally posted on social media as part of our popular “Facebook Friday” series.

Dazed & Confused

Infertility can leave you dazed (as in, clinically depressed), and some scheduling changes for upcoming Southeastern Fertility cycles have some of our patients confused.

Southeastern Fertility’s Mark Mellinger & IVF Coordinator Lynda McCollum unpack some helpful takeaways for these two concerns in this video.

This is one you really need to check out if you’re in the November or December transfer cycles!

They Persevered, and Found a Support System

Charity & Rhett went through a long road of infertility over several years. Along the way, they navigated failed IUIs, surgery, unsuccessful IVF, a very iffy positive pregnancy test, and even an ice storm! But amid their pain and vulnerability, they also discovered an amazing support system in their local church. And yes, eventually, they welcomed the son for whom they had so long prayed.

Right Tool. Right Use. Right Result.

In the video below, originally aired as part of our popular Facebook Fridays series, Southeastern Fertility Co-Director Dr. John Gordon spins a yarn about an ultrasound machine, a pesky house key, and a fix that would make MacGyver proud.

Plus, a little practical joke on the doc, and a gift for IVF Coordinator Lynda McCollum.

We hope you enjoy this mostly-for-entertainment video, but don’t miss the point Dr. G is driving at as well! It’s a key concept when it comes to treating infertility.
